Yes, it's quite frightening for me and annoying. I look like an old man to myself haha

It just wouldn't be right to call the woman in the picture, a pothead?

Beautifully expressed. Thanks for your vulnerability and ability to express it. I’m working on finding the beauty in my natural aging too… as much as my mind can get there, the mirror keeps bringing me down! I feel you. Again, thanks for sharing. (Coastal CT is a close train ride from the city… if you’re craving a day trip to the water and a peaceful backdrop, I live here and would happily host you ☀️.)

I say we just abolish all mirrors at this point 🙂 I think that our journey of finding the beauty is all by design bc we can’t change what happens naturally - I have faith that we’ll both get there and not think twice about it! I’m making a mental note to take you up on that Lindsay! Thank you so much🌸

Yes, let’s! Mirrors, be gone! As a former high school English teacher, I taught The Picture of Dorian Gray… have you read it? It sure makes the idea of not aging totally undesirable! Sometimes I need to be reminded of that. (And the offer always stands ☀️)

Omg I haven’t, but I just put it on my wish list! Oscar Wilde - so I know it’s a must read. Thank you for that! We will def have to chat once I finish it🫶🏽

I’m from ‘over the pond’ but moved from London (although I lived in a nice relatively leafy part I did work in the dusty grey centre) to the south coast - for the beach!! And now at nearly 52 I do sometimes despair at the aging - but remind myself of the privilege of growing old to get over it - mostly! Wishing you a wonderful move to a healthier, more beachy place. 😊

You speak for so many “younger” women. Aging , though, is much harder than actually being old. At midlife, we struggle to hold on to youth and then middle age but for those who discover the worlds of conscious and spiritual aging older age is a life stage with meaning and purpose of its own. Aim to grow not only old (beats the alternative) but whole!

I agree Carol bc to me the number itself isn’t a factor. I’m going to work on acceptance and what I’m meant to learn at each point. This is likely the path to freedom for me lol 🌸

Chicago has great beaches. Definitely come here it is so much cleaner than NYC (from what I've heard) and has such a strong sense of community :) :)

Beautifully said. As a lifelong trueyorker I finally left. Couldn't do anymore either. Packed it up and move to the outer cape of cape cod. Nervous system is slowly resetting, aligning more with myself. Highly recommend it. And thank you for your words.

Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to the resetting of my nervous system, so much so that I get excited just thinking about it. Congrats for freeing yourself of this place! It’ll always be near to my heart but I can love it from afar!

Melanin may be the closest thing we get to the fountain of youth but aging I ain’t no joke.

This past year I experienced a strained calf and pulled groin. Both have continued to nag me and limited the amount of time I can spend playing – something I’ve tried to prioritize at this stage of my life.

Interestingly, those injuries also nudged me to start my newsletter to find a new way to “play”.

All that being said, there’s nothing like being a Black woman in this world so I appreciate being able to hear your perspective family 🙏🏽

Jamal! Thank you so much for reading, this comment was the perfect thing to read after a really long, exhausting day. 🫶🏽

Ugh, I hate that your injuries have limited you, have you thought about a bit of restorative yoga? Maybe go at your own pace/limit? It’s wack as hell that things start limiting us physically as we age and I know I’m always gonna have a hard time with that one but you know what? We will find our ways through it.

I’m glad we connected✨

I've been doing isometrics exercises to help with the rehab and they've been working thankfully but I've never done yoga so its worth a shot!

I'm glad my comment was noteworthy and am glad to have come across your piece as well!

May we both age rebelliously! 🤣
